Celebrating its 25th year, the 2018 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is now underway!
The 25th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival opened on February 28 this year. While a lot of Guest-favorite features are returning, several new items debut as well. Check out Flower & Garden details “by the numbers” below:
-
The 25th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival runs for 90 days this year, from February 28 through May 28, 2018.
-
During the Festival, Epcot is blanketed with 30 million blooms.
-
Two complete crop rotations keep floral displays fresh and seasonal during the Festival’s 90-day run.
-
15 Outdoor Kitchens offer dozens of sweet and savory food and beverage menu items.
-
Each marketplace features a garden planted with select produce and herbs to represent more than 70 overall beverage choices and more than 40 food items featured.
-
More than 30 varieties of flowers, plants, and other garden materials are used to create the scene at Epcot’s entrance gate.
-
Nearly 1,000 native butterflies represent up to 10 species at the expansive Goodness Garden Butterfly House.
-
Two dozen nectar plants provide food for the butterfly garden’s winged residents.
- More than 500,000 plants, trees and shrubs are planted for the festival; 250,000 of those are annual blossoms. Festival plants include 60 different species of trees, 47 types of palms, and 48 varieties of bedding plants.
-
More than 200 floating mini-gardens, nearly 500 container gardens, and more than forty 8-to-9-foot tall, multi-hued “flower towers” add color and beauty during the Festival
-
A Belle topiary with sculpted facial features joins Beast in the France pavilion. She joins Snow White, Anna and Elsa, and other next-generation Character topiaries to feature facial details. Formerly, their faces were comprised of mosses, vines, and other greenery.
Today’s Takeaway:
If possible, attend the 2018 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival! Admire the Park during, in my opinion, its most beautiful time of the year. While there, attend one of the many workshops, sample savory delights at each food kiosk, and get inspired to start growing your own produce at home. Even if you are not able to get to Epcot right now, you can still follow some simple instructions to create a one-pot vegetable garden in your own backyard!
For those who have limited space, or for those with not-so-green thumbs (that’d be me!), Sunset Magazine offers practical advice on how to create a single-container garden. They cover all aspects of the process from choosing the right container to planting the most practical products to caring for, pruning, and picking your produce. First, I was able to share a tour of Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival 2018 Future World on Opening day, now here is a tour of World Showcase. Each country offers a lovely topiary, garden or flower arrangements indicative of that region.
Thanks so much, Erin!
