The act of fidgeting used to be something kids got scolded for: “Sit still and stop fidgeting!” However, in recent years, it has become known that fidgeting is actually a good thing, and is now a sort of global phenomenon that’s been proven to help people focus and relieve stress.
Not long ago, the folks at Zuru by Antsy Labs launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund production of the Original Fidget Cube. This Kickstarter sensation became a reality and is now available at retailers nationwide, such as your neighborhood Walmart! That’s precisely where we found them and purchased one (for under $10) to satisfy our own curiosity.
To be completely honest, this toy has surprised me!
We had seen the cube at an office supply store previously, and I thought to myself that it wasn’t very impressive. But once my kids got hold of it, my mind was quickly changed! While none of my children have sensory issues or are have special needs, all three of them–including the adult one and his fiance–have not been able to leave this thing alone! The Original Fidget Cube from Zuru by Antsy Labs has, of course, six sides, so it has six different activities to keep the holder occupied. You can “breathe” as you rub the thumb indention, roll a silver ball and/or three small gears, swirl a gliding piece, spin a circular pad, push small buttons, or flip a switch. Most of the motions are relatively quiet and do not disturb people around you. My youngest said he especially likes the light switch-style flipper, while my daughter prefers the gliding pad, and my future daughter-in-law found peace from social anxiety with the thumb pad. I have to say, this high quality little gadget satisfies us all, and for under $10, it’s an excellent value!
By the way, it’s also small enough to pack in your backpack for a day at the Disney Parks, and would be an excellent way to help your little fidgeters pass the time waiting in long attraction lines!
