How did Walt’s family name meld from d’Isgny to Disney?
Did you know this week’s Tiggerific Tuesday Disney Trivia?
Walt Disney’s family ancestors came from a small town in France called Isigny-sur-Mer. A person from that region would have been identified as “d’Isigny,” as in Walter d’Isigny, or Walter from Isigny-sur-Mer. The family eventually migrated to Canada in the 1800s and later to the United States, and during the process, the name anglicized to its magical form of Disney.
