Buzz Lightyear Blast is located in the Discoveryland area of Disneyland Park in Disneyland Resort Paris. Similar to its Walt Disney World counterpart, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, which is one of my kids’ favorite Magic Kingdom rides, Buzz Lightyear Blast takes Guests into the story-within-a-story of the Toy Story film trilogy.
Riders enter the Gamma Quadrant, patrolled by the real Buzz Lightyear, to battle the Evil Emperor Zurg. The goal? To stop Zurg from stealing every power cell in the universe—all the batteries that power the toys.
Buzz Lighyear Blast is kind of a simplified Toy Story Mania. The attraction features OmniMover ride vehicles called XP-41 space cruisers that twist and spin a full 360º—at Guests’ control—as they move along a track through the galaxy. Each Cruiser fits one or two people and is mounted with swiveling laser guns riders use to take out Zurg’s army. The system tracks scores of blasted targets and gives players their ranking upon exit. It’s an out-of-this-world experience that is sure to please to infinity and beyond!
Today’s Takeaway:
At Buzz Lightyear Blast, the Evil Emperor Zurg is trying to steal every power cell in the universe. Of course, you and I know those power sources as batteries. Today, experiment with a one and see just what kind of power is encased in those seemingly small packages.
Follow this tutorial from Science Bob to make an electromagnet. You will need only a large iron nail (about 3 inches), about 3 feet of thin-coated copper wire, a fresh D size battery, and some paper clips or other small magnetic objects.
