At Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Resort Paris is one unique, fan-favorite show that is sure to capture your imagination. Animagique is a live stage show housed in a 1,100-seat theater within Studio 3 that uses UV lights and fluorescent paint to bring its performers and props to life.
In Animagique, Donald Duck, angered about his poor drawing skills, steals Mickey’s key to the animation vault and sets loose a myriad of Characters from Disney classics as he journeys along a musical timeline. Glowing puppetry and props magically float around the stage, making it seem like you have entered the midst of timeless Disney cartoons.
The show features a pair of dancing pink elephants from Dumbo, Baloo and King Louie from The Jungle Book, Flounder and friends from The Little Mermaid, and Rafiki from The Lion King, as well as a number of other fantastic objects and creatures. As the “Circle of Life” sequence whisks Donald back to the animation studio, he is bursting with creative energy and ready to create his own c’est fantastique animagique!
Follow the below tutorial to make a cartoon flipbook. She demonstrates the animation with a simple circle, but you can create as simple or as complex a story as you desire. Draw the scenes somewhat large, and color them in with fluorescent markers. Take the flipbook into a darkened room and view your animation under a blacklight. Watch as your “movie” pops right off of its pages!
