Armageddon—the end of the world as we know it—is upon us at Disneyland Resort Paris Walt Disney Studios. Inspired by the hit 1998 movie, Armageddon, starring Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck, this intense attraction at DLRP places Guests right in the moment of the space station’s impact with an asteroid storm.
Guests enjoy a preshow demonstration on how special effects are created for action films, and then proceed into a movie set. While the space station is full of tourists—you!—an asteroid storm pummels it, wreaking havoc all around. Explosions occur so close you can feel the heat. A breach in the station’s hull pulls a vacuum on the room. The floor shakes; the ceiling crumbles. The area is plunged into darkness. Will anyone survive?
Don’t worry! Disney Imagineers only want to frighten—not harm you! It’s just a movie set, after all, but you sure get a feel for just how effective special effects can be. For added accuracy, the space station set was designed using images from the Armageddon film, including bilingual signage in both Russian and English. Also, props on display in the preshow area were used in filming Armageddon, and the actual large-scale Armadillo drilling machine model from the film sits outside the attraction.
