Welcome to the first stop aboard Magical Blogorail Red. Enjoy the ride as we share some of the best Character interactions in the Disney parks.
Back in 2010, my family took our–at the time–semi-annual trip to Walt Disney World. It would be our third time to visit the World, but it would mark a first for us, a sad first. It would be our first visit without Grandma.
Grandma and Grandpa (my mom and step-dad) had traveled with us to The Ultimate Field Trip to Walt Disney World in 2006 and 2008. It seemed that would become our regular vacation with them, but then Grandma left this world all too soon in the spring of 2009. When 2010 rolled around, we weren’t sure if we’d return to our beloved Walt Disney World, because we couldn’t talk Grandpa into going with us, and we feared it wouldn’t be as magical without them. But then we realized a dose of Disney magic was just what we needed to heal our broken hearts!
Our 2010 WDW trip was definitely one of our most magical visits ever! Not only did a vagabond troubadour at Animal Kingdom create a birthday song for Chloe and Adam (mostly about their shoelaces–or lack thereof), but the two of them also got pulled into the parade at Magic Kingdom to dance with Donald Duck, and Kyle took part in a street performance at Hollywood Studios and was given a $1,000,000 dollar bill to buy new socks! (If only that were legal tender, lol!) As great as those moments were, however, the highlight of that vacation was when Chloe and Adam took a walk with Mickey Mouse.
We had walked over to Animal Kingdom’s Camp Minnie-Mickey to explore the activities (pre-Wilderness Explorers), when we noticed several costumed Characters walking out for their meet-and-greets. We posed with Goofy, Donald, Chip & Dale, and Minnie Mouse before heading toward the back of the campground area. As we approached the entrance to Mickey‘s pavilion, the Mouse himself walked right up and grabbed Adam’s hand! Then he reached around and took Chloe’s as well and guided them along with him. We couldn’t believe it! They walked all the way down the path hand-in-hand with Mickey and took lots of sweet pictures with him. (That’s me in the pink tank-top behind them in the above photos, videoing our trek.)
Sadly, Camp Minnie-Mickey is no longer there, as that portion of the Park is undergoing re-imagining and expansion for the upcoming Avatar-inspired land. However, Mickey Mouse and his best girl Minnie are still meeting and greeting their friends in the air conditioned Explorers Outpost building to the right of the Tree of Life. And better yet, Guests can schedule FastPass times for that special moment.
We will always remember our walk with Mickey Mouse as a very special treat. It was certainly something we did not expect–a moment of magic that brought us much chEAR!
