Welcome to the first stop aboard Magical Blogorail Yellow! Enjoy the ride as we share with you the ways we prepare for our Disney vacations before leaving home.
My family just booked our next Walt Disney World vacation, and while the trip is still several pretty far off, we’re already counting down the days till we get back “home.” OK, we’re not quite counting the days yet, but we are counting the months—we leave six months from today!
We talk Disney practically every day, but when my family has a trip on the calendar, each day of its approach adds new excitement to the discussion and gives us all the more reason to do fun Disney-related activities. Here’s some ways we’ll be anticipating September 1st:
- We’re traveling to Walt Disney World with friends for the Ultimate Field Trip. (Click the link to read more!) This year, our good friends are bringing with them a sweet girl who’s never been before, so our families are spending about one evening each week or so between now and September letting the kids make various things they will need on the journey and during the stay. Our first project is matching Mickey fringe t-shirts for the girls. My daughter still has some detailing to do, but it’s looking really good!
- Another project we’ll be working on with our friends is individual snack bags. The kids will each decorate a storage bag for their set of treats to have en route (we drive to WDW from Texas). That will also keep their snacks organized and claimed in the hotel room during our stay at Port Orleans Riverside. Hopefully this will eliminate, “Moooooooom, he ate MY chips!!!!”
- Last year we made a paper chain, starting at 100 days out, and we removed one link per day. That was a long chain, and it made the wait almost unbearable…until the chain had shrunk considerably. We took the last two links with us in the car. This year we’re utilizing the Disney Vacation Countdown Wreath (click link to find the how-to) I made. It’s hanging on the pantry door in the kitchen right now, but instead of daily links, we’ve got 6 for the months remaining.
- And finally, we have created a Disney Vacations Savings Jar (click link for how-to), and are tossing in every spare coin and dollar we can scrounge up. So far we’re up to $130! The final tally will fund souvenirs and/or dining (if we don’t get free Disney dining this year).
