This month we are talking about what we’re most looking forward to on our next Disney trip. At this moment, I don’t have a trip booked—gasp! I know, right? My husband just started a new job recently, so at this point I’m not sure what our 2013 schedule will look like. We are hoping, however, to make our first Christmas visit to Walt Disney World around the end of November/first of December next year.
We’ve never been to the World during the holidays. I’ve seen picture after picture after glorious picture of others soaking up the holiday magic, but our family has yet to get there. I’m really looking forward to experiencing Disney all decked out, and I know being at the Most Magical Place on Earth will only make our Christmas celebration all the more memorable.
I want to stroll down Main Street, U.S.A., sipping hot cocoa under falling snow.

I want to hear tales of Pere Noel, Father Christmas, Babbo Natale—Santa Claus—along the World Showcase.

I want to ooh and ahh under the twinkling canopy at the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.

I want to jam at Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade.

I want to stuff my kids’ stockings with fabulous finds from Festival of the Seasons.
And I really want to sample seasonal delights at, well, pretty much any Walt Disney World restaurant!
It’s going to be tough to wait out the many months between then and now, and my family may need to make an in-between visit to satisfy our longing for “home,” but the joy and the beauty of the Christmas festivities are something we’re really looking forward to!
Today’s Takeaway:
Did you know there are only 53 days until Christmas? My kids like to give and receive homemade gifts with their friends. Disney Family Fun has some really cool suggestions, anywhere from crafts to cakes, to make for friends and family members.
Here’s one we’re definitely going to do. Don’t wait till the last minute; get your kids crafting today!
“Wooden Tree Mobile” – From Disney Family Fun

You will need:
Coping or other small saw
2 36-inch pieces, plus one 12-inch piece of balsa wood with a 1/2-inch-square thickness (available at craft supply stores)
Drill or hand drill with a 1/8-inch bit
Acrylic paint in green, brown, and yellow
Small wooden star
4 feet of plastic lacing or lanyard
4 brown beads with a 1/8-inch-(or larger) diameter hole
11 green beads with a 1/8-inch-(or larger) diameter hole
Wood glue
*small metal jingle bells* (We’re adding these to the recipe!)
What to do:
First, saw one of the 36-inch wooden strips (parents only) into 8 pieces, each 1 inch longer than the previous one: start with a 1-inch piece, then a 2-inch piece, and so on until you reach 8 inches.
Saw the second 36-inch strip of wood into a 9-inch piece, a 10-inch piece, an 11-inch piece, and three 1 1/2-inch pieces. The remainder is scrap.
Drill a hole through the center of each wood strip. Paint the three 1 1/2-inch pieces brown and paint all of the other wood strips, including the 12-inch strip, green. Paint the wooden star yellow and let all of the paint dry (about 15 minutes).
Knot one end of the plastic lace, then alternately string on the beads and the wooden strips as shown. Finally, glue the star to the top strip, let it dry, then hang the tree where it can spin freely.
*We are also going to tie jingle bells at various places on the “branches” and hang the tree over our patio as a winter wind chime.*
