It’s not uncommon to see costumed characters at Disneyland Park on any given day of the year. However, during their nearly two-month “Halloween Time,” not only are favorite characters decked out in seasonal attire, but extra ghouls, ghosts and sinister villains also join the party.
Each year, two popular attractions themselves get masked in holiday makeovers, adding new elements to this magical land. Haunted Mansion residents welcome some Nightmare Before Christmas pals for an extended visit. The Mansion features an overwrap and special theming that increases the 999 Happy Haunt tolls for the Haunted Mansion Holiday. Space Mountain also receives special theming and becomes a spooky trek through creepy poltergeist annals of outer space at Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy. New to Disneyland’s Halloween Time this year is the Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch, where families compete in carnival games and meet-and-greet some of Disney’s most hated villains.

Disney California Adventure is having a howling good time scaring Hollywood Land with an Art of Frankenweenie exhibition that features character models, props and sets from Tim Burton’s upcoming film. But we’ll talk more about DCA next month!
Today’s Takeaway:
Assorted jack-o-lanterns decorate Disneyland Park during Halloween Time. Take a look at the ones in these photos and replicate one to adorn your doorstep this fall. You will need a pumpkin, a black Sharpie marker, and a pumpkin carving kit. Children will require adult supervision on this project!

As an alternative to pumpkin carving, you may have your children draw and decorate jack-o-lantern paper plate masks. You will need paper plates, markers or crayons, scissors, a hole punch, and yarn. Additional decorations are optional. Encourage kids to be creative. Younger kids may need your assistance to cut out eyes, noses, mouths, and other designs. When they’re done with their masterpieces, punch a hole in each side and tie yarn to each side. Secure the mask by tying the ends of the yarn together.
