Our Family Traditions at Walt Disney World
Friday, September 2, 2011
Welcome to those of you joining me from DELIGHTFULLY DISNEY and those of you who have just hopped aboard. I am 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail.
This week we're talking about Disney family traditions. You may remember a few months back when we visited the Magical Blogorail Orange loop, we also shared some fun things our families must do when we visit the Parks. Because it's a special tradition to us, and because we get to revive this tradition in 2 days (!), I'm going to share that same memory with you here, with a special note at the end.
Every time my family visits Walt Disney World Resort, the very first place we head (after checking into our Resort, of course!) is the Magic Kingdom. We drop the luggage in the room and race to the nearest bus stop. Obviously fresh arrivals, we're all jittery and grinning from ear to ear, while our exhausted, sweaty seatmates smirk as if to say, "Give them a day or two, ha!"
We arrive at the gate still grinning and fumble for our Keys to the World, hoping they were magnetized correctly, and kinda bounce over for a PhotoPass op.
Getting closer!
Under the train and around the Town Square, and behold, there it is! We've arrived! We are officially at Disney once we step onto Main Street, U.S.A., and see Cinderella Castle with our own eyes.
It all stems back to our very first trip to the World in 2006, when the magic began with breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table. The look on my little girl's face reflects the genuine awe each of us felt: It's REAL!!! It was a little different for her, of course, because she truly thought the princesses actually lived in the Castle. That moment made it real for all of us, and now it's where each magical journey begins.
Special Note: Our family tradition would not exist if it were not for The Ultimate Field trip, a week-long event at WDW where homeschoolers from across the United States come together to learn while we play and take away from vacation a little more than mere memories. In fact, this tradition continues for us next week! Be sure to check back here on Monday to find out what we'll be up to during our stay at The Most Magical Place on Earth. We'll be Tweeting and Facebooking all week long too! One thing we're super excited about is meeting fellow Blogorailer, Randy from Your Highway in the Sky (Magical Blogorail Orange), who is now a Haunted Mansion Cast Member through the Disney College Program!
Today's Takeaway:
What are your family's traditions? The final activity at this year's Ultimate Field Trip is a volunteer opportunity with Give Kids the World. Why not begin a tradition of giving of your time, talent or other gifts and resources to those in need? Here are a few options:
Give Kids the World - stay an extra day on your next vacation to Walt Disney World and help GKTW host their very special Guests.
Compassion International or World Vision - Sponsor a child through one of these programs and make it a monthly or semi-monthly tradition to write a letter to and/or send a picture your child colored to your sponsored child.
The American Red Cross or Feed the Children - The east coast of the United States was recently shaken by an earthquake and then drenched by Hurricane Irene. Many have lost homes due to storm damage and flooding. Contact these organizations to see what kinds of donations are most needed.

Great Post! And the picture is too cute! I did not know Disney did a homeschooling thing like that! There is so much more for homeschoolers than when I went to school!
Wonderful post! We first run off to The Magic Kingdom too! I love that homeschoolers get special time in WDW. I can't wait to read all about it!
We'll be following along!!

We always head straight to the Magic Kingdom too! I just don't feel like I am at Disney until I hit Main Street. :)
I want to go to the Ultimate Field Trip some year, but my hubby refuses to visit in September. LOL Guess we'll just have to leave him at home! I love the picture of all of you in front of the castle.
We're hoping to make the Ultimate Field Trip next year - can't wait to hear how it goes!
