Tokyo Disney Resort: Tokyo DisneySea

Tokyo DisneySea Park contains seven maritime themed ports of call, full of adventure and discovery, myths and legends. Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront, and Lost River Delta overflow with international flavor, transporting Guests to the coastlines surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic seaboard of North America, and the Central American jungle shores of El Rio Perdido, while creative imagination pulls visitors into the fictional lands of Sinbad the Sailor and Aladdin at the Arabian Coast, Captain Nemo’s secret base on the Mysterious Island, Ariel’s undersea playground of Mermaid Lagoon, and futuristic possibilities at Port Discovery.

Enjoy a variety of relaxing maritime tours on the Mediterranean Harbor via Venetian Gondolas operated by gondoliers or aboard Transit Steamers for a leisurely cruise to Lost River Delta and other docks in American Waterfront, or explore a Renaissance galleon and meet and greet Mickey, Minnie, and Donald nearby.

The American Waterfront features turn-of-the-20th-century Cape Cod living with period vehicles and an ocean steamer reminiscent of Titanic. Two of my favorite Walt Disney World attractions are also found here, Turtle Talk with Crush and Tower of Terror, although each has certain modifications to make it uniquely Tokyo Disney.

Somewhere in the Lost River Delta, rainforest spirits tell jungle tales in the Mystic Rhythms live performance and daring visitors quest for the Fountain of Youth in the Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull.

Along the Arabian Coast, a "hilarious show of illusion and laughter," featuring Genie from Aladdin, entertains Guests at the Magic Lamp Theater, young Guests enjoy the Aladdin-themed Caravan Carousel, and a journey through Sinbad's Storybook Voyage advises to follow "the compass of your heart."

Journey to the center of the earth or dive 20,000 leagues under the sea when you visit the Mysterious Island. here science fiction is not so made up!

Ariel likes to play in the Mermaid Lagoon, and there are lots of mild rides here to prove it. Have fun on Scuttle's Scooters or Flounder's Flying Fish Coaster then take a pic with the Little Mermaid herself in Ariel's Grotto.

An elevated trolley connects the American Waterfront to Port Discovery. Once there, check out the latest experiments going on at the Center for Weather Control. Take a virtual ride into the eye of a typhoon to diffuse its energy or zip around in bumper boats at Aquatopia.

Today's Takeaway:
The Center for Weather Control is a fictitious organization that provides story to Tokyo DisneySea's Port Discovery. There are, however, many groups around the globe who do keep constant vigil on weather systems and atmospheric conditions. They carefully monitor shifts in tectonic plates, volcanic murmurs, and jet stream flow. They look for abnormalities in attempt to provide early warning to people in danger of tsunamis, eruptions, and violent storms. They also study effects of and offer solutions to prevent or clean up oil spills and pollution.

In the U.S.A., the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration does all of the above and more! A 10-day program began this week. "The wonders of coral reefs and life thriving below the sea will be broadcast live on the Internet to classrooms and communities nationwide during a NOAA science and education mission at Aquarius Reef Base. The world’s only undersea research station, the Aquarius is located within Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The 10-day mission starts today [October 12, 2010]."
