Tokyo Disney Resort: Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disney Resort offers Guests a timeless Disney experience right in the heart of this Japanese capitol city. Featuring two separate Parks, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, a shopping and entertainment venue called Ikspiari, and five Resort hotels, Tokyo Disney Resort appeals to locals as well as visitors to the greater Tokyo area. The Disney Resort Line monorail provides access to key points in the Resort, and for travelers’ convenience, baggage assistance and trip planning are available at the Tokyo Disney Resort Welcome Center at the Japan Railway Maihama Station.

Tokyo Disneyland Park is similar to other Magic Kingdom Parks with its wheel-and-hub design and multi-Land layout centered around Cinderella Castle. Instead of strolling down Mainstreet, U.S.A., however, Guests enter the Park with a walk through World Bazaar. The area does have an American turn-of-the-twentieth-century décor and features an old-fashioned Penny Arcade, 33-passenger Omnibus, a Confectionary, Grand Emporium, and several delicious eateries.

Going clockwise from World Bazaar, Guests explore Adventureland’s “lazy bayous of the Caribbean, the colorful marketplaces of Latin America, the Jungles and grasslands of Africa, and the tropical regions of Asia and Polynesia.” Classic attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise can be found here, as well as the lunch and dinner shows, Lilo’s Luau & Fun and Mickey & Minnie’s Polynesian Paradise, both presented at the Polynesian Terrace Restaurant. Here also is the Western River Railroad, a relaxing train ride around and through Primeval World.

Continue on to the American Old West in Westernland, where Big Thunder Mountain Railroad towers above the flowing Rivers of America and encounter cowboys, cancan dancers, gold miners, and other denizens of the rugged American frontier. Hop a raft over to Tom Sawyer Island or catch a show at the Diamond Horseshoe or the Country Bear Theater. Critter Country complements Westernland with explorer-guided canoe trips around Rivers of America and the exciting Brer Rabbit adventure of Splash Mountain.

Many familiar attractions lie beyond the portals of Cinderella Castle, where Guests can take part in a land of enchantment. Here, classic Disney Characters entertain, like Pinocchio, Snow White, and Peter Pan. Take your pick from a variety of rides like Dumbo the Flying Elephant, the Haunted Mansion, and Alice’s Tea Party. Don’t forget to explore the shops inside castle!

Toontown is “a loony town square, and a suburban neighborhood where Disney characters live, work, and play.” Rides are geared toward younger Park visitors and are perfect first coaster moments, like Gadget’s Go Coaster and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin. Little ones also enjoy the Toon Park soft play area and, of course, the Character meet-and-greet near Mickey’s House.

Don’t leave the Park without passing through Tomorrowland. This futuristic world of scientific discovery hosts the infamous Space Mountain, as well as Star Tours, Captain EO (featuring the late Michael Jackson), and Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters.

Photography is an integral part of a Disney travel experience. People often rely on visual images to remember their vacations and to capture those magical moments in time. Can’t wait til you return home print out your photos? At Tokyo Disneyland Park, Guests can stop by any Photo Express/Digital Photo Express station and have their pictures printed with an original Disney border for about ¥52/63¢ per print (¥105/$1.28 for film as it requires additional developing costs). Photos will be finished in approximately 90 minutes for digital media and approximately 3 hours for film, and will be available for pickup at the Camera Center.
